Provinces are states that receive their power and authority directly from the Crown, via the 1867 Constitution Act. Territories derive their mandates and powers from the federal government.

Canada's ten provinces include: Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Quebec and Saskatchewan.

Canada's three territories include: Northwest Territories, Nunavut and the Yukon Territory.
