The last ferry from Sandbanks departs at 11PM. The last ferry from Shell Bay departs at 11:10AM. On Christmas Day the ferry operates 1/2 hourly, 8AM to 6PM. The Sandbanks Chain Ferry operates between a fairly narrow channel using a chain by which the ferry pulls itself along. The chain is anchored on two banks and rests on the sea bed.
