Between (261) and (265) the trail passes directly above a Tank Firing Range that has been in use since the First World War. You will likely see many destroyed tanks in the fields. Also to your north, notice the Lulworth Castle. For more information about Lulworth Castle and Lulworth Cove, visit www.lulworthcastle.com
Between (265) and (266) is a very steep downhill slope. Carefully hike down this hillside to (269).
Continue to the fossil forest trail head at (306). To see the fossils, use the steps and handrail to the bottom of the cliff. The fossils were formed from growths that grew around tree stumps from about 135 million years ago.
At (306) there's a gate to exit the area controlled by the Army. Pass through the gate and continue forward. Hike down the hillside to your right. At the bottom of the hill you're given two options: Either walk around the coast (when the tide is low) to the Main Road or hike north, up the steep hillside. The trail continues at (320), located near the Lulworth Heritage Centre.

Too tired to continue? There's a bus in Lulworth that can take you to the Wool train station.
Beginning at (320), the trail will lead you up a steep hill to (321). The elevation of the trail at (320) is about 65 feet above sea level, and at (321) it's about 400 feet. |
