Camping at Montana de Oro State Park
There's a primitive campground in the canyon, located just a few hundred feet from the Visitor Center and Park Headquarters that was once the Spooner Ranch House. The campground provides 50 campsites for tents and trailers. There's tables, firepits, drinking water, and primitive toilets nearby. There are no showers or dump stations.
For those who prefer more seclusion and peace, there's also a walk-in environmental campsite. To access the campsite, campers must hike a distance to their location.
Horseback riding is a popular activity in the park - and there's quite a few horse trails. You can camp overnight with your horses at one of the six horse camps for family and group outings, complete with pipe corrals and plenty of parking for horse trailers.
And of course, everyone must camp only in the designated camping areas.
