There are a few places of interest in this area and they include Brewers Quay, Nothe Fort, Portland Castle, and Sandsfoot Castle.
Brewers Quay (L) is a redeveloped Victorian brewery housing a range of specialist shops and attractions. For more information visit www.brewersquay.com
Nothe Fort was built in 1872 to protect the Portland Harbour. The British and American navies used Nothe Fort as a base during WWII. Today the fort is a museum — the entrance fee is only a few pounds — a visit is recommended. For more information visit www.nothefort.co.uk
Portland Castle is one of Henry VIII's finest coastal fortresses. The castle was later used during WWII as a signals base and D-Day embarkation point. For more information about Portland Castle visit www.portlandcastle.co.uk
Henry VIII's Sandsfoot Castle (N) was built in 1539. There's no entry to the castle, and it's free to visit. While walking along the Rodwell Trail, at (380) turn left, then walk about 100 steps forward to visit the castle.

At (384) the Rodwell Trail ends, the location of which is identified as the Ferry Bridge. Cross Portland Road to (385), and continue walking northwest along the coast. |
