Trinidad Memorial Lighthouse, California
In 1898 a fog bell was installed at 126 feet on Trinidad Head. A concrete gallows was installed to hold the bell over the water to allow the clock driven mechanism to be powered by slowly descending weights. The bell house still remains and is the last in California.
This monument is a replica of the functioning lighthouse on Trinidad Head. It was constructed by and is maintained by the Trinidad Civic Club. Trinidad Lighthouse cannot be seen from this location. It went into service in 1871. Today, the light and foghorn are automated and unmanned. In the early 1970's, the Trinidad Civic Club decided to establish a memorial plaque for those lost at sea and it was positioned on a rock near the anchor.
