From the lighthouse continue your hike to (133). There will be a few fences to climb over (foot steps provided), and a few gates to walk through. Continue west to the Dancing Ledge at (139). At (141) the trail makes its way north, around the Seacombe Quarry. Look for the stairs at (143) that take you back to the coast. At (146) you can see the Winspit Quarry. The quarry was last used during the Second World War. While the old mines are open, they should be viewed from a distance as rocks can fall and cause serious injuries.
At (149) the trail will lead you up a small hill to the Radar Research Memorial at (152). There's an emergency phone at the lookout station at (153). Behind the lookout station is the Norman chapel of St. Aldhelm. The chapel is usually open to visitors.

Continue along the coast to Chapman's Pool. There's only a few diffi cult climbs from Bournemouth to Lyme Regis and this is one of them. At (154) your elevation is approximately 350 feet. Stairs are provided to climb down the hillside to 165 feet at (158). Then you must immediately climb back up the other side to (162) where the elevation is 300 feet.
At (164) there's a stone table with benches, enclosed by a stone wall. The site was built by the Royal Marines Association to the memory of all the Royal marines who were killed during the war.
At (166) the trail leads inland as it makes its way around Chapman's Pool. When you reach the pavement at (170), turn left, walk through the gates, and follow the signs that lead you back to the coast. After walking along some farm roads to (175) you will arrive near the coast at the Houns-tout cliff. Hike up the hillside to (182) where the elevation is about 500 feet. There's a large stone bench at the top of the hill. Have a rest, and then continue down the hillside to the man made waterfall at (183). |
