Location of Yellowstone National Park

Yellowstone National Park was the first national park in the world; established in 1872 in Wyoming; overlapping slightly into Montana and Idaho, it was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1978. With over two-thirds of the world's geysers located here, approximately 300 in the park, Old Faithful is the largest active geyser in the world, erupting every 91 minutes. Yellowstone is comprised of lakes, canyons, rivers, steaming water, boiling mud, a mountain of glass and yellow rock; and is considered to be a megafauna wildlife habitat, including some endangered species. Numerous flowering plants, abundant wildlife, over 1,700 species of trees and a petrified forest combine to make this an unforgettable experience. Recreational opportunities abound both summer and winter in this magnificent, yet unique primeval atmosphere.
