The Sandal Trail is a self guided trail located along the mesa behind the visitor centre. There are several picnic benches for visitors to enjoy — the trail is slightly uneven in areas but overall an easy walk. The Betatakin Overlook offers views of the Anasazi Betatakin Ruins that were built into a sandstone alcove during 1250 AD and 1300 AD. The Sandal Trail is one of three short trails located behind the visitor centre and is open year round.
