The Gillem's Camp Trail is a self guided, easy interpretive trail that passes through a historical area within the national monument — the area was used as a US Army military encampment during the Modoc war of 1872-1873. The ruins of several rock walls are the only evidence of what remains of Gillem's Camp, as well as the rectangular rock wall of the cemetery.
